Sprint rolls out Kyocera DuraXT

Sprint has announced the availability of the Kyocera DuraXT, a clamshell phone with a tough exterior. The device is designed for durability in rough work environments, and its water- and shock-resistant casing packs a range of connectivity technologies. Users can connect to Sprint's Direct Connect push-to-talk network, as well as the carrier's TeamDC conferencing system.

The device features Military Standard 810G Spec construction to protect against dust, shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, solar radiation, and salt fog. The DuraXT is said to be able to withstand submersion for up to 30 minutes in up to one meter of water. It also features a rubber, non-slip Dura-Grip material for more secure holding.

Aside from the rugged construction, the DuraXT offers an entry-level feature set including a 3.2-megapixel camera and camcorder, 3G and Bluetooth connectivity, and a microSD slot.

After a $50 mail-in rebate reward card, the DuraXT is available for $70 with a new line or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement.
